Exclusive Deeply Virtual Compton and Neutral Pion

چکیده
We propose to use the High Momentum Spectrometer of Hall C combined with a PbWO4 electromagnetic calorimeter in order to perform high precision measurements of the Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS) cross section. A wide range of kinematics accessible with an 11 GeV electron beam off an unpolarized proton target will be covered. The azimuthal, energy and helicity dependences of the cross section will all be exploited in order to separate the interference and DVCS contributions to each of the Fourier moments of the cross section. For each term, its Q dependence will be measured independently. At the same time, the exclusive π electroproduction cross section will also be measured and a longitudinal/transverse separation will be performed. The total request is for 65 days of beam.

Transverse Spin / Transverse Momentum Analogy and Gauge Invariance of Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering
Using the similarity between twist 3 contributions to transverse spin for usual parton distributions and transverse momentum for non-diagonal parton distributions, we determine for the simple case of a scalar (pion, He) target the linear in transverse momentum twist-3 contribution to Deeply Virtual Compton amplitude. This allows to write a gauge invariant amplitude for this non-forward process.
متن کاملThe role of the pion cloud in the interpretation of the valence light-cone wavefunction of the nucleon
The pion cloud renormalises the light-cone wavefunction of the nucleon which is measured in hard, exclusive photon-nucleon reactions. We discuss the leading twist contributions to high-energy exclusive reactions taking into account both the pion cloud and perturbative QCD physics. The nucleon’s electromagnetic form-factor at high Q is proportional to the bare nucleon probability Z and the cross...
متن کاملExclusive Vector Meson Production and Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering at HERA ∗
Exclusive vector meson production and deeply virtual Compton scattering are ideally suited reactions for studying the structure of the proton and the transition from soft to hard processes. The main experimental data obtained at HERA are summarised and presented in the light of QCD approaches.

pion production, and the excitation of the lowest negative parity state N− 1/2 (1535) is studied in the pη and in the Nπ channels. First results on electroproduction of pππ show intriguing resonance structure which seems difficult to explain using known baryon resonance properties. Searches for resonances in KY ∗ and in pω channels also reveal resonance-like behavior. I also briefly address a n...
متن کاملSoft Pion Emission in DVCS
We examine soft-pion emission in deeply virtual Compton scattering. Contrary to previous claims, we find that the amplitude for soft-pion emission is not directly related to the generalized parton distributions in the nucleon.
